When evening came, the disciples approached him and said, ‘This place is deserted, and it is already late. Send the crowds away so that they can go into the villages and buy food for themselves.’
Jesus called his disciples and said, ‘I have compassion on the crowd, because they’ve already stayed with me for three days and have nothing to eat. I don’t want to send them away hungry, otherwise they might collapse on the way.’
‘How many loaves do you have? ’ Jesus asked them. ‘Seven,’ they said, ‘and a few small fish.’
‘You give them something to eat,’ he responded. They said to him, ‘Should we go and buy two hundred denarii worth of bread and give them something to eat? ’
‘You give them something to eat,’ he told them. ‘We have no more than five loaves and two fish,’ they said, ‘unless we go and buy food for all these people.’
