Then King David went in,  sat in the Lord’s presence, and said, Who am I, Lord God, and what is my house that you have brought me this far?

But Moses asked God, ‘Who am I  that I should go to Pharaoh and that I should bring the Israelites out of Egypt? ’


The fear of the Lord is what wisdom teaches, and humility comes before honour.


Before his downfall a person’s heart is proud, but humility comes before honour.


But I protested, ‘Oh no, Lord God! Look, I don’t know how to speak  since I am only a youth.’


She fell face down, bowed to the ground,  and said to him, ‘Why have I found favour with you, so that you notice me, although I am a foreigner? ’


Saul’s servants reported these words directly to David, but he replied, ‘Is it trivial in your sight to become the king’s son-in-law? I am a poor commoner.’


Saul responded, ‘Am I not a Benjaminite  from the smallest of Israel’s tribes and isn’t my clan the least important of all the clans of the Benjaminite tribe?  So why have you said something like this to me? ’
