Samuel asked him, ‘Are these all the sons you have? ’ ‘There is still the youngest,’  he answered, ‘but at the moment he’s tending the sheep.’ Samuel told Jesse, ‘Send for him. We won’t sit down to eat until he gets here.’


Every morning and evening for forty days the Philistine came forward and took his stand.


David answered Saul, ‘Your servant has been tending his father’s sheep. Whenever a lion or a bear came and carried off a lamb from the flock,


Saul kept David with him from that day on and did not let him return to his father’s house.
