Then he openeth the ears of men,\par\tab And sealeth their instruction,


Who doeth great things and unsearchable,\par\tab Marvellous things without number:


How precious also are thy thoughts unto me, O God!\par\tab How great is the sum of them!


If I should count them, they are more in number than the sand:\par\tab When I awake, I am still with thee.


I will not reprove thee for thy sacrifices;\par\tab And thy burnt-offerings are continually before me.


For thou delightest not in sacrifice; else would I give it:\par\tab Thou hast no pleasure in burnt-offering.


My mouth shall tell of thy righteousness,\par\tab {\i And} of thy salvation all the day;\par\tab For I know not the numbers {\i thereof}.


then his master shall bring him unto God, and shall bring him to the door, or unto the door-post; and his master shall bore his ear through with an awl; and he shall serve him for ever.


What unto me is the multitude of your sacrifices? saith Jehovah: I have had enough of the burnt-offerings of rams, and the fat of fed beasts; and I delight not in the blood of bullocks, or of lambs, or of he-goats.


O Jehovah, thou art my God; I will exalt thee, I will praise thy name; for thou hast done wonderful things, {\i even} counsels of old, in faithfulness {\i and} truth.


He that killeth an ox is as he that slayeth a man; he that sacrificeth a lamb, as he that breaketh a dog's neck; he that offereth an oblation, {\i as he that offereth} swine's blood; he that burneth frankincense, as he that blesseth an idol. Yea, they have chosen their own ways, and their soul delighteth in their abominations:


For I desire goodness, and not sacrifice; and the knowledge of God more than burnt-offerings.


Yea, though ye offer me your burnt-offerings and meal-offerings, I will not accept them; neither will I regard the peace-offerings of your fat beasts.


But if ye had known what this meaneth, {\b I desire mercy, and not sacrifice,} ye would not have condemned the guiltless.


But go ye and learn what {\i this} meaneth, {\b I desire mercy, and not sacrifice}: for I came not to call the righteous, but sinners.}\par


And Samuel said, Hath Jehovah as great delight in burnt-offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of Jehovah? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to hearken than the fat of rams.
