Take fast hold of instruction; let her not go:\par\tab Keep her; for she is thy life.


but if ye refuse and rebel, ye shall be devoured with the sword; for the mouth of Jehovah hath spoken it.\par


that say to the seers, See not; and to the prophets, Prophesy not unto us right things, speak unto us smooth things, prophesy deceits,


He feedeth on ashes; a deceived heart hath turned him aside; and he cannot deliver his soul, nor say, Is there not a lie in my right hand?\par


Though our iniquities testify against us, work thou for thy name's sake, O Jehovah; for our backslidings are many; we have sinned against thee.


Can a virgin forget her ornaments, or a bride her attire? yet my people have forgotten me days without number.


Will he retain {\i his anger} for ever? will he keep it to the end? Behold, thou hast spoken and hast done evil things, and hast had thy way.\par


As a cage is full of birds, so are their houses full of deceit: therefore they are become great, and waxed rich.


O Jehovah, do not thine eyes look upon truth? thou hast stricken them, but they were not grieved; thou hast consumed them, but they have refused to receive correction: they have made their faces harder than a rock; they have refused to return.\par


Wherefore a lion out of the forest shall slay them, a wolf of the evenings shall destroy them, a leopard shall watch against their cities; every one that goeth out thence shall be torn in pieces; because their transgressions are many, {\i and} their backslidings are increased.\par


And I set watchmen over you, {\i saying}, Hearken to the sound of the trumpet; but they said, We will not hearken.


Hear, O earth: behold, I will bring evil upon this people, even the fruit of their thoughts, because they have not hearkened unto my words; and as for my law, they have rejected it.


Thy habitation is in the midst of deceit; through deceit they refuse to know me, saith Jehovah.\par


Yea, all Israel have transgressed thy law, even turning aside, that they should not obey thy voice: therefore hath the curse been poured out upon us, and the oath that is written in the law of Moses the servant of God; for we have sinned against him.


They shall not return into the land of Egypt; but the Assyrian shall be their king, because they refused to return {\i to me}.


And my people are bent on backsliding from me: though they call them to {\i him that is} on high, none at all will exalt {\i him}.\par


And now they sin more and more, and have made them molten images of their silver, even idols according to their own understanding, all of them the work of the craftsmen: they say of them, Let the men that sacrifice kiss the calves.


For Israel hath behaved himself stubbornly, like a stubborn heifer: now will Jehovah feed them as a lamb in a large place.


But they refused to hearken, and pulled away the shoulder, and stopped their ears, that they might not hear.


and ye will not come to me, that ye may have life.


prove all things; hold fast that which is good;


See that ye refuse not him that speaketh. For if they escaped not when they refused him that warned {\i them} on earth, much more {\i shall not} we {\i escape} who turn away from him that {\i warneth} from heaven:


Nevertheless that which ye have, hold fast till I come.
