Therefore saith the Lord, Jehovah of hosts, the Mighty One of Israel, Ah, I will ease me of mine adversaries, and avenge me of mine enemies;


Wail ye; for the day of Jehovah is at hand; as destruction from the Almighty shall it come.


For there shall be a day of Jehovah of hosts upon all that is proud and haughty, and upon all that is lifted up; and it shall be brought low;


He hath swallowed up death for ever; and the Lord Jehovah will wipe away tears from off all faces; and the reproach of his people will he take away from off all the earth: for Jehovah hath spoken it.\par


For Jehovah hath indignation against all the nations, and wrath against all their host: he hath utterly destroyed them, he hath delivered them to the slaughter.


For Jehovah hath a day of vengeance, a year of recompense for the cause of Zion.


Say to them that are of a fearful heart, Be strong, fear not: behold, your God will come {\i with} vengeance, {\i with} the recompense of God; he will come and save you.\par


Comfort ye, comfort ye my people, saith your God.


Thus saith Jehovah, In an acceptable time have I answered thee, and in a day of salvation have I helped thee; and I will preserve thee, and give thee for a covenant of the people, to raise up the land, to make them inherit the desolate heritages:


I, even I, am he that comforteth you: who art thou, that thou art afraid of man that shall die, and of the son of man that shall be made as grass;


I have seen his ways, and will heal him: I will lead him also, and restore comforts unto him and to his mourners.


Is such the fast that I have chosen? the day for a man to afflict his soul? Is it to bow down his head as a rush, and to spread sackcloth and ashes under him? wilt thou call this a fast, and an acceptable day to Jehovah?


And foreigners shall build up thy walls, and their kings shall minister unto thee: for in my wrath I smote thee, but in my favor have I had mercy on thee.


And ye shall see {\i it}, and your heart shall rejoice, and your bones shall flourish like the tender grass: and the hand of Jehovah shall be known toward his servants; and he will have indignation against his enemies.\par


Then shall the virgin rejoice in the dance, and the young men and the old together; for I will turn their mourning into joy, and will comfort them, and make them rejoice from their sorrow.


For that day is {\i a day} of the Lord, Jehovah of hosts, a day of vengeance, that he may avenge him of his adversaries: and the sword shall devour and be satiate, and shall drink its fill of their blood; for the Lord, Jehovah of hosts, hath a sacrifice in the north country by the river Euphrates.


But as for me, I am full of power by the Spirit of Jehovah, and of judgment, and of might, to declare unto Jacob his transgression, and to Israel his sin.\par


Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted.

Blessed {\i are} ye that hunger now: for ye shall be filled. Blessed {\i are} ye that weep now: for ye shall laugh.


(for he saith,\par\tab {\b At an acceptable time I hearkened unto thee,\par\tab And in a day of salvation did I succor thee}:\par\tab behold, now is the acceptable time; behold, now is {\b the day of salvation}):


forbidding us to speak to the Gentiles that they may be saved; to fill up their sins always: but the wrath is come upon them to the uttermost.\par
