For he sacrificed unto the gods of Damascus, which smote him; and he said, Because the gods of the kings of Syria helped them, {\i therefore} will I sacrifice to them, that they may help me. But they were the ruin of him, and of all Israel.


Happy is he that hath the God of Jacob for his help,\par\tab Whose hope is in Jehovah his God:


Our soul hath waited for Jehovah:\par\tab He is our help and our shield.


{\b For the Chief Musician. {\i A Psalm} of the sons of Korah; set to Alamoth. A Song.}\par\par\tab God is our refuge and strength,\par\tab A very present help in trouble.


He that committeth adultery with a woman is void of understanding:\par\tab He doeth it who would destroy his own soul.


But he that sinneth against me wrongeth his own soul:\par\tab All they that hate me love death.\par


Woe unto the wicked! {\i it shall be} ill {\i with him}; for what his hands have done shall be done unto him.


The show of their countenance doth witness against them; and they declare their sin as Sodom, they hide it not. Woe unto their soul! for they have done evil unto themselves.


Hast thou not procured this unto thyself, in that thou hast forsaken Jehovah thy God, when he led thee by the way?


Thine own wickedness shall correct thee, and thy backslidings shall reprove thee: know therefore and see that it is an evil thing and a bitter, that thou hast forsaken Jehovah thy God, and that my fear is not in thee, saith the Lord, Jehovah of hosts.\par


Thy way and thy doings have procured these things unto thee; this is thy wickedness; for it is bitter, for it reacheth unto thy heart.\par


Your iniquities have turned away these things, and your sins have withholden good from you.


Yet I am Jehovah thy God from the land of Egypt; and thou shalt know no god but me, and besides me there is no saviour.


O Israel, return unto Jehovah thy God; for thou hast fallen by thine iniquity.


And they have not cried unto me with their heart, but they howl upon their beds: they assemble themselves for grain and new wine; they rebel against me.


Though I have taught and strengthened their arms, yet do they devise mischief against me.


But ye profane it, in that ye say, The table of Jehovah is polluted, and the fruit thereof, even its food, is contemptible.


Ye say also, Behold, what a weariness is it! and ye have snuffed at it, saith Jehovah of hosts; and ye have brought that which was taken by violence, and the lame, and the sick; thus ye bring the offering: should I accept this at your hand? saith Jehovah.


And now, I pray you, entreat the favor of God, that he may be gracious unto us: this hath been by your means: will he accept any of your persons? saith Jehovah of hosts.


There is none like unto God, O Jeshurun, Who rideth upon the heavens for thy help, And in his excellency on the skies.


Happy art thou, O Israel: Who is like unto thee, a people saved by Jehovah, The shield of thy help, And the sword of thy excellency! And thine enemies shall submit themselves unto thee; And thou shalt tread upon their high places.
