“And you, my son Solomon, know the God of your father, and serve him with single mind and willing heart, for the Lord searches every mind and understands every plan and thought. If you seek him, he will be found by you, but if you forsake him, he will abandon you forever.


Do not hide your face from me in the day of my distress. Incline your ear to me; answer me speedily in the day when I call.


For my days pass away like smoke, and my bones burn like a furnace.


I have done what is just and right; do not leave me to my oppressors.


How long, O Lord? Will you forget me forever? How long will you hide your face from me?


Answer me quickly, O Lord; my spirit fails. Do not hide your face from me, or I shall be like those who go down to the Pit.


They will receive blessing from the Lord and vindication from the God of their salvation.


Why do you hide your face? Why do you forget our affliction and oppression?


Do not cast me away from your presence, and do not take your holy spirit from me.


Do not hide your face from your servant, for I am in distress—make haste to answer me.


Draw near to me; redeem me; set me free because of my enemies.


O Lord, God of my salvation, at night, when I cry out before you,


Thus says the Lord: Where is your mother’s bill of divorce with which I dismissed her? Or which of my creditors is it to whom I have sold you? No, because of your sins you were sold, and for your transgressions your mother was dismissed.


Rather, your iniquities have been barriers between you and your God, and your sins have hidden his face from you so that he does not hear.


I will make an everlasting covenant with them, never to draw back from doing good to them, and I will put the fear of me in their hearts, so that they may not turn from me.


Keep your lives free from the love of money, and be content with what you have, for he himself has said, “I will never leave you or forsake you.”


Then Samuel took a stone and set it up between Mizpah and Jeshanah and named it Ebenezer, for he said, “Thus far the Lord has helped us.”
