These were those enrolled by Moses and Eleazar the priest, who enrolled the Israelites in the plains of Moab by the Jordan at Jericho.


“Our father died in the wilderness; he was not among the congregation of those who gathered themselves together against the Lord in the congregation of Korah but died for his own sin, and he had no sons.


Nevertheless, God was not pleased with most of them, and they were struck down in the wilderness.


And with whom was he angry forty years? Was it not those who sinned, whose bodies fell in the wilderness?


This is the reason why Joshua circumcised them: all the males of the people who came out of Egypt, all the warriors, had died during the journey through the wilderness after they had come out of Egypt.
