because they did not meet the Israelites with bread and water but hired Balaam against them to curse them—yet our God turned the curse into a blessing.


My soul longs, indeed it faints, for the courts of the Lord; my heart and my flesh sing for joy to the living God.


These are the records of the tabernacle, the tabernacle of the covenant, which were drawn up at the commandment of Moses, the work of the Levites being under the direction of Ithamar son of the priest Aaron.


You are altogether beautiful, my love; there is no flaw in you.


You are beautiful as Tirzah, my love, comely as Jerusalem, terrible as an army with banners.


You shall live in booths for seven days; all who are native-born in Israel shall live in booths,


For the one who does this, may the Lord cut off any witness or advocate from the tents of Jacob or anyone who could bring an offering to the Lord of hosts.


The Israelites did just as the Lord had commanded Moses: they camped by regiments, and they set out the same way, everyone by clans, according to ancestral houses.


Balaam looked up and saw Israel camping tribe by tribe. Then the spirit of God came upon him,


the oracle of one who hears the words of God, who sees the vision of the Almighty, who falls down but with eyes uncovered:


Like palm groves that stretch far away, like gardens beside a river, like aloes that the Lord has planted, like cedar trees beside the waters.


Happy are you, O Israel! Who is like you, a people saved by the Lord, the shield of your help and the sword of your triumph! Your enemies shall come fawning to you, but you shall tread on their backs.”


but I would not listen to Balaam; therefore he blessed you, so I rescued you out of his hand.
