So the king called the Gibeonites and spoke to them. (Now the Gibeonites were not of the people of Israel but of the remnant of the Amorites; although the people of Israel had sworn to spare them, Saul had tried to wipe them out in his zeal for the people of Israel and Judah.)


But the king spared Mephibosheth, the son of Saul’s son Jonathan, because of the oath of the Lord that was between them, between David and Jonathan son of Saul.

He took one of the royal offspring and made a covenant with him, putting him under oath (he had taken away the chief men of the land),


As I live, says the Lord God, surely in the place where the king resides who made him king, whose oath he despised and whose covenant with him he broke—in Babylon he shall die.


By faith Rahab the prostitute did not perish with those who were disobedient, because she had received the spies in peace.


The city and all that is in it shall be devoted to the Lord for destruction. Only Rahab the prostitute and all who are with her in her house shall live because she hid the messengers we sent.


So the young men who had been spies went in and brought Rahab out, along with her father, her mother, her brothers, and all who belonged to her—they brought all her kindred out—and set them outside the camp of Israel.


And Joshua made peace with them, guaranteeing their lives by a treaty, and the leaders of the congregation swore an oath to them.


So he showed them the way into the city, and they put the city to the sword, but they let the man and all his family go.
