On the third day, which was Pharaoh’s birthday, he made a feast for all his servants and lifted up the head of the chief cupbearer and the head of the chief baker among his servants.


in the third year of his reign, he gave a banquet for all his officials and ministers. The army of Persia and Media, the nobles, and the governors of the provinces were present,


On that day the Lord God of hosts called for weeping and mourning, for baldness and putting on sackcloth,


The Lord of hosts has revealed himself in my ears: “Surely this iniquity will not be forgiven you until you die,” says the Lord God of hosts.


A sword against the Chaldeans, says the Lord, and against the inhabitants of Babylon and against her officials and her sages!


When they are inflamed, I will set out their drink and make them drunk, until they become merry and then sleep a perpetual sleep and never wake, says the Lord.


I will make her officials and her sages drunk, also her governors, her deputies, and her warriors; they shall sleep a perpetual sleep and never wake, says the King, whose name is the Lord of hosts.


That very night Belshazzar, the Chaldean king, was killed.


Like thorns they are entangled; like drunkards they are drunk; they are consumed like dry straw.
