‘How?’ the Lord asked him. He replied, ‘I will go out and be a lying spirit in the mouth of all his prophets.’ Then the Lord said, ‘You are to entice him, and you shall succeed; go out and do it.’


Now the spirit of the Lord departed from Saul, and an evil spirit from the Lord tormented him.


And Saul’s servants said to him, “See now, an evil spirit from God is tormenting you.


Let our lord now command the servants who attend you to look for someone who is skillful in playing the lyre, and when the evil spirit from God is upon you, he will play it, and you will feel better.”


Again there was war, and David went out to fight the Philistines. He launched a heavy attack on them, so that they fled before him.


Saul heard that David and those who were with him had been located. Saul was sitting at Gibeah, under the tamarisk tree on the height, with his spear in his hand, and all his servants were standing around him.
