Job 9 - Easy To Read Version

Then Job answered:

“Yes, I know what you say is true.\par But how can a man win an argument with God?\par

A person can’t argue with God!\par God could ask 1,000 questions and\par no person could answer even one!\par

God is very wise\par and his power is very great.\par No person can fight God and not be hurt.\par

God moves mountains when he is angry\par and they don’t even know it.\par

God sends earthquakes to shake the earth.\par God shakes the earth’s foundations.\par

God can speak to the sun,\par and make it not rise.\par He can lock up the stars,\par so they don’t shine.\par

God alone made the skies.\par He walks on the ocean waves.\par

“God made the Bear, Orion,\par and the Pleiades. {\cf2\super [17]} \par He made the planets that cross\par the southern sky. {\cf2\super [18]} \par

God does wonderful things\par that people can’t understand.\par There is no end to God’s great miracles.\par

When God goes past me,\par I can’t see him.\par When God goes by,\par I don't notice him.\par

If God takes something away,\par no one can stop him.\par No one can say to him,\par ‘What are you doing?’\par

God won’t hold his anger back.\par Even Rahab’s {\cf2\super [19]} helpers\par are afraid of God.\par

So I can’t argue with God.\par I wouldn’t know what to say to him.\par

I am innocent,\par but I can’t give him an answer.\par All I can do is beg my Judge (God)\par for mercy.\par

Even if I called and he answered,\par I still wouldn’t believe\par that he really would listen to me.\par

God would just send storms to crush me.\par He would just give me more wounds\par for no reason.\par

God would’t let me catch my breath again.\par He would just give me more trouble.\par

I can’t defeat God.\par God is too powerful!\par I can’t take God to court\par and force him to be fair to me.\par Who could force God to come to court?\par

I am innocent, but the things I say\par make me seem guilty.\par I am innocent, but if I speak\par my mouth proves me guilty.\par

I am innocent.\par But I don’t know what to think.\par I hate my own life.\par

I say to myself,\par ‘The same thing happens to everybody.\par Innocent people die just like the guilty.\par God ends all their lives.’\par

When something terrible happens\par and an innocent person is killed,\par does God just laugh at him?\par

When an evil man takes control of a land,\par does God keep the leaders\par from seeing what is happening?\par If that is true,\par then who is God anyway?\par

“My days go faster than a runner.\par My days fly away and there is\par no happiness in them.\par

My days go by quickly\par like the papyrus {\cf2\super [20]} boats.\par My days go by as fast as eagles\par swooping down to catch an animal.\par

“If I say,\par ‘I won’t complain.\par I will forget my pain,\par I will put a smile on my face.’\par

It doesn’t really change anything.\par The suffering still scares me!\par

I am already judged guilty.\par So why should I keep trying?\par I say, ‘Forget it!’\par

Even if I wash myself with snow\par and make my hands clean with soap,\par

God will still push me into the slime pit. {\cf2\super [21]} \par Then even my clothes will hate me.\par

God is not a man like me.\par That is why I can’t answer him.\par We can’t meet each other in court.\par

I wish there were someone\par to listen to both sides. {\cf2\super [22]} \par I wish there were someone\par to judge both of us in a fair way.\par

I wish there were someone to take God’s\par punishing stick away.\par Then God would not scare me any more.\par

Then I could say what I want to say\par without being afraid of God.\par
