Bible commentaries

There are those who doubt that God really has control. They see the tragedies of the world, and wonder if perhaps God is not so powerful as to end all evils. They encounter what appears to be an insurmountable obstacle in their own lives, and come to the conclusion that God's power is limited. Of course we do not understand everything that happens in this life. But we know from the Bible that God has final authority. as he says in Psalms 103:19 "The LORD has established his throne in heaven, and his kingdom rules over all". Think of the deeper implications of that verse: God has total control of the whole universe. He reigns above all, and his power overcomes all other forces. The terms omnipotent, omnipresent, and omniscient are often used to describe Him. In other words, our God is almighty, exists everywhere, and knows everything. This means that there is nothing beyond his knowledge or his ability to govern. This limitless and unfathomable God, who has no impediments and who has absolute control, adopts us as his children. What a wonderful prospect! When we begin to understand this truth, our soul is filled with peace and rest. If you believe that God is all-powerful, is that idea simply an "intellectual knowledge," or does it affect the way you feel and how you think? When you realize that there is nothing that escapes the knowledge, control and merciful purpose of the Lord, fear disappears and his peace is truly experienced.
