YHWH, don’t your eyes look on truth? You have stricken them, but they were not grieved. You have consumed them, but they have refused to receive correction. They have made their faces harder than a rock. They have refused to return.


“Y’all come,” they say, “I will get wine, and we will fill ourselves with beer; and tomorrow will be as today, great beyond measure.”


Though you grind a fool in a mortar with a pestle along with grain, yet his foolishness will not be removed from him.


As a dog that returns to his vomit, so is a fool who repeats his folly.


This has happened to them according to the true proverbs, “A dog turns to its own vomit,” and “A sow that has washed returns to wallowing in the mire.”


They became callous and gave themselves up to sensuality to practice every kind of impurity with greediness.


“I have heard-heard Ephraim grieving thus, ‘You have chastised me, and I was chastised, as an untrained calf. Turn me, and I will be turned, for you are YHWH my God.


But look, there is joy and gladness, killing cattle and killing sheep, eating meat and drinking wine: “Let’s eat and drink, for tomorrow we will die.”


When such a person hears the words of this curse, he bless himself in his heart, saying, “I will have peace, even though I walk in the stubbornness of my heart.” This will destroy the moist and the dry land.


Yes, you will be as he who lies down in the middle of the sea, or as he who lies on top of the rigging:
