A glad heart makes a cheerful face, but an aching heart breaks the spirit.
A cheerful heart makes good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones.
“Don’t let y’all’s heart be troubled. Y’all believe in God. Y’all should also believe in me.
A person’s spirit will sustain them in sickness, but a crushed spirit, who can bear?
Anxiety weighs down a person’s heart, but a kind word makes it glad.
All the days of the afflicted are wretched, but one who has a cheerful heart enjoys a continual feast.
For godly sorrow produces repentance that leads to salvation, without regret. But worldly sorrow produces death.
so instead, y’all should forgive and comfort them. Otherwise such a person might swallowed up with overwhelming grief.
Now this is our boast: the testimony of our conscience is that we have conducted ourselves in the world, and especially toward y’all, with godly integrity and sincerity, not by fleshly wisdom but by the grace of God.
The king said to me, “Why is your face sad, since you are not sick? This is nothing else but sorrow of heart.” Then I was very much afraid.
