where for forty days, he was tempted by the devil. He ate nothing in those days, and when they had ended, he was very hungry.


Seeing a fig tree in the distance with leaves, he came to see if perhaps he might find anything on it. When he came to it, he found nothing but leaves, because it was not the season for figs.


In the morning, as they were passing by, they saw the fig tree withered from the roots.
