Then he said to them, “Y’all must beware and be on guard against all kinds of greed, for a person’s life doesn’t consist of the abundance of possessions.”
Y’all should know this with certainty, that no sexually immoral, impure, or covetous person who is an idolater, has any inheritance in the empire of Christ and God.
They come to you as the people come, and they sit before you as my people, and they hear your words, but don’t do them; for with their mouth they show much love, but their heart goes after their gain.
The seed sown among the thorns is the one who hears the word, but the cares of this age and the deceitfulness of riches choke the word, making it unfruitful.
When Judas, who had betrayed him, saw that Jesus was condemned, he felt remorse and returned the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests and elders,
because Herod feared John, knowing that he was a righteous and holy man, and kept him safe. When he heard him, he was perplexed, yet he enjoyed listening to him.
Looking at him, Jesus loved him and said to him, “One thing you lack. Go, sell whatever you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.”
