“Come y’all, see a human who told me everything that I have done. Can this be the Christ?”


They answered him, “You were born entirely in sin, and yet you are teaching us?” Then they threw him out.


The man answered them, “How amazing! Y’all don’t know where he comes from, yet he opened my eyes.


He answered, “I don’t know if he is a sinner. One thing I do know: that though I was blind, now I see.”


The Pharisees asked him again how he received his sight. He said to them, “He put mud on my eyes, I washed, and I see.”


Then they asked him, “Who is the man who said to you, ‘Take up your mat and walk’?”


This is the testimony of John, when the Jews sent priests and Levites from Jerusalem to ask him, “Who are you?”


Instead, he went out and began to proclaim it freely, spreading the news. As a result, Jesus could no longer openly enter into a city, but stayed outside in lonely places. Still people came to him from everywhere.


So the Jews said to the man who had been healed, “It is the Sabbath. It is not lawful for you to carry your mat.”


For this reason the Jews persecuted Jesus, because he did these things on the Sabbath.


For this reason the Jews sought all the more to kill him, because he not only broke the Sabbath, but also called God his own Father, making himself equal with God.
