The king spoke and said to the wise men of Babylon, “Whoever reads this writing and shows me its interpretation will be clothed with purple, and have a chain of gold about his neck, and become the third ruler in the kingdom.”


By your wisdom and by your understanding you have gotten yourself riches, and have gotten gold and silver into your treasuries.


I saw a dream which made me afraid. The thoughts on my bed and the visions of my head troubled me.


So I made a decree to bring in all the wise men of Babylon before me, that they might make known to me the interpretation of the dream.
