But Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself with the king’s delicacies, nor with the wine which he drank. Therefore he requested of the prince of the eunuchs that he might not defile himself.

Don’t incline my heart to any evil thing, to practice deeds of wickedness with men who work iniquity. Don’t let me eat of their delicacies.


But he who stands steadfast in his heart, and is under no distress but has authority over his own will, and who has determined in his own heart to keep her as a virgin, does well.

Don’t be desirous of his dainties, since they are deceitful food.


They drank wine, and praised the gods of gold, and of silver, of bronze, of iron, of wood, and of stone.
