The king ordered Ashpenaz, the master of his eunuchs, to bring in some of the children of Israel, including some of the royal offspring and of the nobles:
‘Some of your descendants, who come from you, whom you father, will be taken from away, and they will become eunuchs in the palace of the king of Babylon.’”
He carried away Jehoiachin to Babylon, with the king’s mother, the king’s wives, his officers, and the chief men of the land. He carried them into captivity from Jerusalem to Babylon.
Now in the seventh month, Ishmael the son of Nethaniah, the son of Elishama, of the royal offspring and one of the chief officers of the king, and ten men with him, came to Gedaliah the son of Ahikam to Mizpah; and there they ate bread together in Mizpah.
‘Look, the days are coming when all that is in your house, and that which your fathers have stored up until today, will be carried to Babylon. Nothing will be left,’ says YHWH.
