Therefore because of y’all, Zion will be plowed like a field, and Jerusalem will become a heap of ruins, and the mountain of the temple like the high places of a forest.
Therefore I will do to the house which is called by my name, in which y’all trust, and to the place which I gave to y’all and to y’all’s ancestors, as I did to Shiloh.
Though this house is so high, yet everyone who passes by it will be astonished and hiss; and they will say, ‘Why has YHWH done this to this land and to this house?’
I said to the king, “Let the king live forever! Why shouldn’t my face be sad, when the city, the place of my fathers’ tombs, lies waste, and its gates have been consumed with fire?”
I will lay it a wasteland. It won’t be pruned or hoed, but it will grow briers and thorns. I will also command the clouds that they rain no rain on it.”
For I have set my face against this city for disaster, and not for good,” says YHWH. “It will be given into the hand of the king of Babylon, and he will burn it with fire.”’
I will punish y’all according to the fruit of your* deeds, says YHWH; and I will kindle a fire in her forest, and it will devour all that is around her.’”
The Chaldeans, who fight against this city, will come and set this city on fire, and burn it with the houses on whose roofs they have offered incense to Baal, and poured out drink offerings to other gods, to provoke me to anger.
then I will uproot them from my land that I have given them; and this house, which I have made holy for my name, I will cast out of my sight, and I will make it a proverb and a byword among all peoples.
“YHWH says, ‘Look, I am going to bring disaster on this place and on its inhabitants, including all the curses that are written in the book which they have read before the king of Judah.
They said to me, “The remnant that remains from the exile there in the province are in great trouble and disgrace. The wall of Jerusalem is also broken down, and its gates have been burned with fire.”
But my words and my decrees, which I commanded my servants the prophets, didn’t they overtake y’all’s ancestors? “Then they repented and said, ‘Just as YHWH Almighty determined to do to us, according to our ways and according to our practices, so ʜᴇ has dealt with us.’”
