For he built again the high places which Hezekiah his father had broken down; and he raised up altars for the Baals, made Asheroth, and worshiped all the army of the sky, and served them.

You must not plant for yourselves an Asherah of any kind of tree beside YHWH your God’s altar, which you are to make for yourselves,


and has gone and served other gods and worshiped them, or the sun, or the moon, or any of the stars of the sky, which I have not commanded,


Now when all this was finished, all Israel who were present went out to the cities of Judah and broke the pillars in pieces, cut down the Asherah poles, and broke down the high places and the altars out of all Judah and Benjamin, also in Ephraim and Manasseh, until they had destroyed them all. Then all the children of Israel returned, every man to his possession, into their own cities.


They arose and took away the altars that were in Jerusalem, and they took away all the altars for incense and threw them into the brook Kidron.


those who worship the army of the sky on the housetops, those who worship and swear by YHWH and also swear by Malcam,


The houses of Jerusalem and the houses of the kings of Judah, which are defiled, will be as the place of Topheth, even all the houses on whose roofs they have burned incense to all the army of the sky and have poured out drink offerings to other gods.”’”


Wisdom is better than weapons of war; but one sinner destroys much good.


He removed the high places, broke the pillars, and cut down the Asherah. He also broke in pieces the bronze serpent that Moses had made, because in those days the children of Israel burned incense to it; and he called it Nehushtan.


But God turned away and gave them over to worship the stars of heaven, as it is written in the book of the prophets, ‘House of Israel, for forty years in the wilderness, was it to me that y’all brought offerings and sacrifices?


Even their children remember their altars and their Asherah poles by the green trees on the high hills.


They will spread them before the sun, the moon, and all the army of the sky, which they have loved, which they have served, after which they have walked, which they have sought, and which they have worshiped. They will not be gathered or be buried. They will be like dung on the surface of the earth.


Who knows whether they will be wise or a fool? Yet they will have rule over all of my labor in which I have labored, and in which I have shown myself wise under the sun. This also is emptiness.


Did not Hezekiah himself take away ʜɪꜱ high places and ʜɪꜱ altars, and commanded Judah and Jerusalem, saying, ‘Y’all are to worship before one altar and burn incense on it?’


He took away the horses that the kings of Judah had dedicated to the sun, at the entrance of the house of YHWH, by the room of Nathan Melech the officer who was in the court; and he burned the chariots of the sun with fire.


For he built again the high places which Hezekiah his father had destroyed; and he raised up altars for Baal, and made an Asherah, as Ahab king of Israel did, and worshiped all the army of the sky, and served them.


For they also built for themselves high places, sacred pillars, and Asherah poles on every high hill and under every green tree.


When you lift up your eyes to the sky and see the sun and the moon and the stars, even all the army of the sky, do not be drawn away and worship them and serve them. YHWH your God has allotted them to all the peoples under the whole sky.


but y’all must break down their altars, and dash in pieces their pillars, and y’all must cut down their Asherah poles.


The king commanded Hilkiah the high priest, and the priests of the second order, and the keepers of the threshold, to bring out of the temple of YHWH all the vessels that were made for Baal, for the Asherah, and for all the army of the sky; and he burned them outside of Jerusalem in the fields of the Kidron, and carried their ashes to Bethel.


Ahaz gathered together the vessels of God’s house, cut the vessels of God’s house in pieces, and shut up the doors of the house of YHWH; and he made himself altars in every corner of Jerusalem.


He took away the foreign gods and the idol out of the house of YHWH, and all the altars that he had built in the mountain of the house of YHWH and in Jerusalem, and cast them out of the city.


His prayer also, and how God listened to his request, and all his sin and his trespass, and the places in which he built high places and set up the Asherah poles and the engraved images before he humbled himself: are written in the history of Hozai.


Because they have forsaken me, and have burned incense to other gods, so as to provoke me to anger with all the works of their hands, therefore my wrath will be poured out on this place, and it will not be quenched.’”’


“For the children of Judah have done that which is evil in my sight,” says YHWH. “They have set their detestable things in the house which is called by my name, to defile it.
