He also wrote letters insulting YHWH, the God of Israel, and speaking against him, saying, “As the gods of the nations of the lands, which have not delivered their people out of my hand, so the God of Hezekiah will not deliver his people out of my hand.”

Hezekiah received the letter from the hand of the messengers and read it. Then Hezekiah went up to the house of YHWH, and spread it before YHWH.


Have the gods of the nations delivered them, which my fathers have destroyed—Gozan, Haran, Rezeph, and the children of Eden who were in Telassar?


It opened its mouth in blasphemies against God, to blaspheme ʜɪꜱ name, ʜɪꜱ dwelling place, and those who dwell in heaven.


Does an ax brag exalt itself above the one who chops with it? Does a saw make itself important than the one who saws with it? As if a rod should lifting the one who lifts it, or as a staff lifting up the one who isn’t wood.


Then Sanballat sent his servant to me the same way the fifth time with an open letter in his hand,


Because of your raging against me, and because your arrogance has come up into my ears, therefore I will put my hook in your nose, and my bridle in your lips, and I will turn you back by the way by which you came.’


Whom have you defied and blasphemed? Against whom have you exalted your voice and lifted up your eyes on high? Against the Holy One of Israel!


Hezekiah received the letter from the hand of the messengers and read it. Then Hezekiah went up to the house of YHWH, and spread it before YHWH.


When he heard it said of Tirhakah king of Ethiopia, “Look, he has come out to fight against you,” he sent messengers again to Hezekiah, saying,


Who among all the gods of those nations that my predecessors completely destroyed was able to deliver his people from my hand? Why should y’all’s God be able to deliver y’all from my hand?


His servants spoke yet more against YHWH God and against his servant Hezekiah.


David spoke to the men who stood by him, saying, “What will be done for the man who kills this Philistine and takes away the disgrace from Israel? For who is this uncircumcised Philistine that he should defy the armies of the living God?”


Your servant has killed both the lion and the bear. This uncircumcised Philistine will like one of them, because he has defied the armies of the living God.”


Look, you have heard what the kings of Assyria have done to all lands, by destroying them utterly. Will you be delivered?
