They made a proclamation through Judah and Jerusalem, to bring in for YHWH the tax that Moses the servant of God laid on Israel in the wilderness.

The king called for Jehoiada the chief, and said to him, “Why haven’t you required of the Levites to bring in the tax of Moses the servant of YHWH, and of the assembly of Israel, out of Judah and out of Jerusalem, for the Tent of the Testimony?”


All the princes and all the people rejoiced, and brought in, and cast into the chest, until they had filled it.


Now in the first year of Cyrus king of Persia, that word of YHWH by the mouth of Jeremiah might be accomplished, YHWH stirred up the spirit of Cyrus king of Persia, so that he made a proclamation throughout all his kingdom, and put it also in writing, saying,


“When you take a census of the children of Israel, according to those who are counted among them, then each man must give a ransom for his soul to YHWH when you count them, that there be no plague among them when you count them.
