Now the king of Syria had commanded the captains of his chariots, saying, “Y’all must not fight with small or great, but with the king of Israel alone.”
He said to him, “YHWH says, ‘Because you have let go out of your hand the man whom I had devoted to destruction, therefore your life will take the place of his life, and your people take the place of his people.’”
Y’all must not show partiality in judgment. Y’all are to listen to the small and the great alike. Y’all must not be afraid of the face of man, for the judgment is God’s. If a case is too hard for y’all, y’all may bring to me, and I will hear it.”
Now the king of Syria had commanded the thirty-two captains of his chariots, saying, “Y’all must not fight with anyone, small nor great, except with the king of Israel.”
The king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, “I will disguise myself, and go into the battle; but you put on your robes.” So the king of Israel disguised himself; and they went into the battle.
When the captains of the chariots saw Jehoshaphat, they said, “It is the king of Israel!” Therefore they turned around to fight against him. But Jehoshaphat cried out, and YHWH helped him; and God moved them to depart from him.
