Abijah pursued Jeroboam, and took cities from him: Bethel with its villages, Jeshanah with its villages, and Ephron with its villages.

When Asa heard these words and the prophecy of Oded the prophet, he took courage, and put away the abominations out of all the land of Judah and Benjamin, and out of the cities which he had taken from the hill country of Ephraim; and he renewed the altar of YHWH that was before YHWH’s porch.


The border extended from the top of the mountain to the spring of the waters of Nephtoah, and went out to the cities of Mount Ephron; and the border extended to Baalah (also called Kiriath Jearim);


Consequently, Jesus no longer walked openly among the Jews. Instead, he departed from there into the country near the wilderness to a city called Ephraim. He stayed there with his disciples.

He took it, with its king and all its cities. They struck them with the edge of the sword, and utterly destroyed all the souls who were in it. He left no one remaining. As he had done to Hebron, so he did to Debir, and to its king; as he had done also to Libnah, and to its king.


But don’t stay there. Y’all are to chase y’all’s enemies and attack them from the rear. Y’all must not allow them to enter into their cities, for YHWH y’all’s God has delivered them into y’all’s hand.”


Thus the children of Israel were brought under at that time, and the children of Judah prevailed, because they relied on YHWH, the God of their fathers.


Jeroboam didn’t recover strength again in the days of Abijah. YHWH struck him, and he died.


He called the name of that place Bethel, though the name of the city had been Luz.


He placed forces in all the fortified cities of Judah, and set garrisons in the land of Judah and in the cities of Ephraim, which Asa his father had taken.
