The LORD preserves the foreigners. He upholds the fatherless and widow, but he turns the way of the wicked upside down.

Someone told David, saying, “Ahithophel is amongst the conspirators with Absalom.” David said, “LORD, please turn the counsel of Ahithophel into foolishness.”

When Ahithophel saw that his counsel was not followed, he saddled his donkey, arose, and went home to his city, set his house in order, and hanged himself; and he died, and was buried in the tomb of his father.

Then Zeresh his wife and all his friends said to him, “Let a gallows be made fifty cubits high, and in the morning speak to the king about hanging Mordecai on it. Then go in merrily with the king to the banquet.” This pleased Haman, so he had the gallows made.

So they hanged Haman on the gallows that he had prepared for Mordecai. Then the king’s wrath was pacified.

but when this became known to the king, he commanded by letters that his wicked plan, which he had planned against the Jews, should return on his own head, and that he and his sons should be hanged on the gallows.

But you do see trouble and grief. You consider it to take it into your hand. You help the victim and the fatherless.

The LORD preserves all those who love him, but he will destroy all the wicked.

The LORD upholds the humble. He brings the wicked down to the ground.

With the pure, you will show yourself pure. With the crooked you will show yourself shrewd.

A father of the fatherless, and a defender of the widows, is God in his holy habitation.

The LORD will uproot the house of the proud, but he will keep the widow’s borders intact.

The way of the wicked is like darkness. They don’t know what they stumble over.

Leave your fatherless children. I will preserve them alive. Let your widows trust in me.”

Assyria can’t save us. We won’t ride on horses; neither will we say any more to the work of our hands, ‘Our gods!’ for in you the fatherless finds mercy.”

I will come near to you to judgement. I will be a swift witness against the sorcerers, against the adulterers, against the perjurers, and against those who oppress the hireling in his wages, the widow, and the fatherless, and who deprive the foreigner of justice, and don’t fear me,” says the LORD of Hosts.

For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God. For it is written, “He has taken the wise in their craftiness.”

You shall rejoice before the LORD your God: you, your son, your daughter, your male servant, your female servant, the Levite who is within your gates, the foreigner, the fatherless, and the widow who are amongst you, in the place which the LORD your God shall choose to cause his name to dwell there.

Pure religion and undefiled before our God and Father is this: to visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep oneself unstained by the world.
