When Yeshua had finished saying these things, the multitudes were astonished at his teaching,

They were astonished at his teaching, for he taught them as having authority, and not as the scribes.

If we should say, ‘From men’”—they feared the people, for all held Yochanan to really be a prophet.

They tried to seize him, but they feared the multitude; for they perceived that he spoke the parable against them. They left him and went away.

The Pharisees went out, and immediately conspired with the Herodians against him, how they might destroy him.

for Herod feared Yochanan, knowing that he was a righteous and holy man, and kept him safe. When he heard him, he did many things, and he heard him gladly.

All who heard him were amazed at his understanding and his answers.

The chief priests and the scribes sought to lay hands on him that very hour, but they feared the people—for they knew he had spoken this parable against them.

All testified about him and wondered at the gracious words which proceeded out of his mouth; and they said, “Isn’t this Joseph’s son?”

As he reasoned about righteousness, self-control, and the judgement to come, Felix was terrified, and answered, “Go your way for this time, and when it is convenient for me, I will summon you.”
