¶ And he called the people unto him, and said to them: hear and understand.

In vain they worship me, teaching doctrines which are nothing but the commandments of men,

by the which also ye are saved, I do you to wit after what manner I preached unto you, if ye keep it, except ye have believed in vain.

neither give heed to fables and genealogies, which are endless, and breed doubts, more than Godly edifying which is by faith:

and not taking heed to jewes fables, and commandments of men, which turn from the truth.

Be not carried thither with divers and strange learning. For it is a good thing that the heart be stablished with grace, and not with meats, which have not profited them that have had their pastime in them.

¶ Wilt thou understand o thou vain man, that faith without deeds is dead?

¶ I testify unto every man that heareth the words of prophecy of this book: if any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book.
