A sower went out to sow his seed, and as he sowed, some fell by the way side, and it was trodden under feet, and the fowls of the air devoured it up.

Then answered he and said to them. He that soweth the good seed, is the son of man,

¶ Ye are the salt of the earth: but and if the salt be once unsavory, what can be salted there with? It is thence forth good for nothing, but to be cast out at the doors, and that men tread it under feet.

These be they which are by the ways side, where the word is sown, to whom as soon as they have heard it, cometh the devil and taketh away the word that was sown in their hearts.

¶ When much people were gathered together, and were come to him out of the cities, he spake by a similitude:

And some fell on stone, and as soon as it was sprung up, it withered away, because it lacked moistness.

¶ Wherefore we ought much more to attend unto those things which we have heard, lest we perish.
