And one of them that stood by drew out a sword, and smote a servant of the high priest, and cut off his ear.

When they which were about him saw what would follow, they said unto him. Lord, shall we smite with a sword.

Iesus answered and said: Suffer ye thus far forth. And he touched his ear, and healed him.

¶ Dearly beloved avenge not yourselves but give room unto the wrath of God. For it is written: vengeance is mine, and I will reward saith the Lord.
