¶ A certain man was sick, named Lazarus of Bethania the town of Mary and her sister Martha.
And he left them, and went out of the city unto Bethany, and passed the time there.
¶ And when they came nye to Hierusalem, unto Bethphage, and Bethani, besides mount Olivete, he sent forth ij. of his disciples,
This said he. And after that he said unto them: our friend Lazarus sleepeth, but I go to wake him out of sleep.
Bethanie was nye unto Ierusalem, about xv. furlongs off,
And many of the jewes came to Martha and Mary, to comfort them over their brother.
and his sister sent unto him saying: Lord behold, he whom thou lovest is sick.
¶ The people that was with him, when he called Lazarus out of his grave, and raised him from death, bare record.
¶ Much people of the jewes had knowledge that he was there. And they came not for Iesus' sake only, but that they might see Lazarus also whom he raised from death.
It chanced in those days that she was sick and died. When they had washed her and laid her in a chamber:
