¶ Then shall they put you to trouble, and shall kill you, and ye shall be hated of all nations for my name's sake:

Blessed are ye when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall falsely say all manner of evil sayings against you for my sake.

whosoever heareth you, heareth me: And whosoever despiseth you, despiseth me. And he that despiseth me, despiseth him that sent me.

¶ And he put forth this similitude, unto certain which trusted in themselves, that they were perfect, and despised other.

Blessed are ye when men hate you, and thrust you out of their company, and rail on you, and abhor your name, as an evil thing, for the son of man's sake.

Certain Philosophers of the Epicures, and of the Stoyckes disputed with him. And some there were which said: what will this babbler say. Other said: he seemeth to be a tidings bringer of new devils, because he preached unto them Iesus, and the resurrection,

When they heard of the resurrection from death, some mocked, and other said: we will hear thee again of this matter.

¶ As he thus answered for himself: Festus said with a loud voice: Paul, thou art besides thyself. Much learning hath made thee mad.

For I will shew him how great things he must suffer for my name's sake.

¶ For when the world thorow wisdom knew not god, in the wisdom of god: it pleased god throwe foolishness of preaching to save them that believe.

But we preach Christ crucified, unto the jews an occasion of falling and unto the greeks foolishness:

For Godly foolishness is wiser than men: And godly weakness is stronger than are men.

Wherefore let him that thinketh he standeth, take heed lest he fall.

For the natural man perceiveth not the things of the spirit of god: For they are but foolishness unto him. Neither can he perceive them because he is spiritually examined:

And I was among you in weakness, and in fear, and in much trembling.

Let no man deceive himself. If any man seem wise among you, let him be a fool in this world, that he may be wise.

I gave you milk to drink and not meat. For ye then were not strong, no neither yet are strong.

Now ye are full: now ye are made rich: ye reign as kings without us: and I would to god ye did reign, that we might reign with you.

For the pistels (saith he) are sore and strong: but his bodily presence is weak, and his speech homely.

For ye suffer fools gladly because that ye yourselves are wise.

Who is sick: and I am not sick? Who is hurt in the faith: and my heart burneth not?

We are glad when we are weak, and ye strong. This also we wish for, even that ye were perfect.

So then death worketh in us, and life in you.

in honour and dishonour, in evil report and good report, as deceivers and yet true,

He therefore that despiseth, despiseth not man, but God, which hath sent his holy spirit among you.

¶ Happy are ye when ye suffer rebuke for the name of Christ. For the spirit of glory and the spirit of God resteth upon you. On their part he is evil spoken of: but on your part he is glorified.
