Turning towards him, Jesus replied, »To-day salvation has come to this house, seeing that he too is a son of Abraham.

My meaning is that Christ has become a servant to the people of Israel in vindication of God's truthfulness –in showing how sure are the promises made to our forefathers–

a righteousness coming from God, which depends on faith in Jesus Christ and extends to all who believe. No distinction is made;

unless you can deny that it is one and the same God who will pronounce the circumcised to be acquitted on the ground of faith, and the uncircumcised to be acquitted through the same faith.

Before, not after. And he received circumcision as a sign, a mark attesting the reality of the faith-righteousness which was his while still uncircumcised, that he might be the forefather of all those who believe even though they are uncircumcised–in order that this righteousness might be placed to their credit;

Standing then acquitted as the result of faith, let us enjoy peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ,

In other words, it is not the children by natural descent who count as God's children, but the children made such by the promise are regarded as Abraham's posterity.

Our freedom has been thus purchased in order that in Christ Jesus the blessing belonging to Abraham may come upon the nations, so that through faith we may receive the promised Spirit.

(Now the promises were given to Abraham and to his seed. God did not say »and to seeds,« as if speaking of many, but »and to your seed,« since He spoke of only one–and this is Christ.)

But Scripture has shown that all mankind are the prisoners of sin, in order that the promised blessing, which depends on faith in Jesus Christ, may be given to those who believe.

caused us, dead though we were through our offences, to live with Christ –it is by grace that you have been saved–

For it is by grace that you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves. It is God's gift, and is not on the ground of merit–

in order that having been declared righteous through His grace we might become heirs to the Life of the Ages in fulfilment of our hopes.

For this reason, brethren, be all the more in earnest to make sure that God has called you and chosen you; for it is certain that so long as you practise these things, you will never stumble.
