Hypocrite, first take the beam out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly how to remove the splinter from your brother's eye.

Perceiving their wickedness, Jesus replied, »Why are you hypocrites trying to ensnare me?

And why do you look at the splinter in your brother's eye, and not notice the beam which is in your own eye?

Or how say to your brother, `Allow me to take the splinter out of your eye,' while the beam is in your own eye?

»Give not that which is holy to the dogs, nor throw your pearls to the swine; otherwise they will trample them under their feet and then turn and attack you.«

Vain pretenders! You know how to read the aspect of earth and sky. How is it you cannot read this present time?

But the Lord's reply to him was, »Hypocrites, does not each of you on the Sabbath untie his bullock or his ass from the stall and lead him to water?

»Doubtless,« said He, »you will quote to me the proverb, `Physician, cure yourself: all that we hear that you have done at Capernaum, do here also in your native place.'«

How can you say to your brother, `Brother, let me take that splinter out of your eye,' when all the while you yourself do not see the beam in your own eye? Vain pretender! take the beam out of your own eye first, and then you will see clearly to take the splinter out of your brother's eye.

»Jesus I know,« the evil spirit answered, »and Paul I have heard of, but who are you?«
