»Come,« said Jesus. Then Peter climbed down from the boat and walked upon the water to go to Him.

»Because your faith is so small,« He replied; »for I solemnly declare to you that if you have faith like a mustard-seed, you shall say to this mountain, `Remove from this place to that,' and it will remove; and nothing shall be impossible to you.

In solemn truth I tell you that if any one shall say to this mountain, `Remove, and hurl thyself into the sea,' and has no doubt about it in his heart, but stedfastly believes that what he says will happen, it shall be granted him.

»and often it has thrown him into the fire or into pools of water to destroy him. But, if you possibly can, have pity on us and help us.«

Immediately the father cried out, »I do believe: strengthen my weak faith.«

»If your faith,« replied the Lord, »is like a mustard seed, you might command this black-mulberry-tree, `Tear up your roots and plant yourself in the sea,' and instantly it would obey you.

»Did I not promise you,« replied Jesus, »that if you believe, you shall see the glory of God?«

After this man had listened to one of Paul's sermons, the Apostle, looking steadily at him and perceiving that he had faith to be cured,

But where there is no faith it is impossible truly to please Him; for the man who draws near to God must believe that there is a God and that He proves Himself a rewarder of those who earnestly try to find Him.
