Jesus however remained silent. Again the High Priest addressed Him. »In the name of the ever-living God,« he said, »I now put you on your oath. Tell us whether you are the Christ, the Son of God.«

So the Tempter came and said, »If you are the Son of God, command these stones to turn into loaves.«

In the evening many demoniacs were brought to Him, and with a word He expelled the demons; and He cured all the sick,

They cried aloud, »What hast Thou to do with us, Thou Son of God? Hast Thou come here to torment us before the time?«

and Jesus said to him, »Be careful to tell no one, but go and show yourself to the priest, and offer the gift which Moses appointed as evidence for them.«

But Jesus reprimanded him, saying, »Silence! come out of him.«

When it was evening, after sunset people came bringing Him all who were sick and the demoniacs;

Then He cured numbers of people who were ill with various diseases, and He drove out many demons; not allowing the demons to speak, because they knew who He was.

And the foul spirits, whenever they saw Him, threw themselves down at His feet, screaming out:»You are the Son of God.«

Then standing over her He rebuked the fever, and it left her; and she at once rose and waited on them.

But these have been recorded in order that you may believe that He is the Christ, the Son of God, and that, through believing, you may have Life through His name.

You believe that God is one, and you are quite right: evil spirits also believe this, and shudder.«
