just as the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give His life as the redemption-price for many.«

There is no one who has gone up to Heaven, but there is One who has come down from Heaven, namely the Son of Man whose home is in Heaven.

For God did not send His Son into the world to judge the world, but that the world might be saved through Him.

He who comes from above is above all. He whose origin is from the earth is not only himself from the earth, his teaching also is from the earth. He who comes from Heaven is above all.

»My food,« said Jesus, »is to be obedient to Him who sent me, and fully to accomplish His work.

»In most solemn truth I tell you,« replied Jesus, »that the Son can do nothing of Himself–He can only do what He sees the Father doing; for whatever He does, that the Son does in like manner.

»I can of my own self do nothing. As I am bidden, so I judge; and mine is a just judgement, because it is not my own will that guides me, but the will of Him who sent me.«

»This,« replied Jesus, »is above all the thing that God requires–that you should be believers in Him whom He has sent.«

For God's bread is that which comes down out of Heaven and gives Life to the world.«

They kept asking, »Is not this man Joseph's son? Is he not Jesus, whose father and mother we know? What does he mean by now saying, `I have come down out of Heaven'?«

As the ever-living Father has sent me, and I live because of the Father, so also he who eats me will live because of me.

For even the Christ did not seek His own pleasure. His principle was, »The reproaches which they addressed to Thee have fallen on me.«

(Now this »re-ascended« –what does it mean but that He had first descended into the lower regions of the earth?

Although He was God's Son, yet He learned obedience from the sufferings which He endured;
