A week later the disciples were again in the house, and Thomas was with them, when Jesus came –though the doors were locked– and stood in their midst, and said, »Peace be to you.«

Six day later, Jesus took with Him Peter and the brothers James and John, and brought them up a high mountain to a solitary place.

Later still He showed Himself to the Eleven themselves whilst they were at table, and He upbraided them with their unbelief and obstinacy in not having believed those who had seen Him alive.

While they were thus talking, He Himself stood in their midst and said, »Peace be to you!«

It was about eight days after this that Jesus, taking with Him Peter, John, and James, went up the mountain to pray.

»Let us go also,« Thomas, the Twin, said to his fellow disciples, »that we may die with him.«

Peace I leave with you: my own peace I give to you. It is not as the world gives its greetings that I give you peace. Let not your hearts be troubled or dismayed.

On that same first day of the week, when it was evening and, for fear of the Jews, the doors of the house where the disciples were, were locked, Jesus came and stood in their midst, and said to them, »Peace be to you!«

A second time, therefore, He said to them, »Peace be to you! As the Father sent me, I also now send you.«

After this, Jesus again showed Himself to the disciples. It was at the Lake of Tiberias. The circumstances were as follows.

This was now the third occasion on which Jesus showed Himself to the disciples after He had risen from among the dead.

He had also, after He suffered, shown Himself alive to them with many sure proofs, appearing to them at intervals during forty days, and speaking of the Kingdom of God.
