Some of His disciples therefore said to one another, »What does this mean which He is telling us, `A little while and you do not see me, and again a little while and you shall see me,' and `Because I am going to the Father'?«

So they kept the matter to themselves, although frequently asking one another what was meant by the rising from the dead.

They, however, did not understand what He meant, and were afraid to question Him.

Nothing of this did they understand. The words were a mystery to them, nor could they see what He meant.

But they did not understand His meaning: it was veiled from them that they might not perceive it, and they were afraid to ask Him about it.

The meaning of this His disciples did not understand at the time; but after Jesus was glorified they recollected that this was written about Him, and that they had done this to Him.

Judas (not the Iscariot) asked, »Master, how is it that you will reveal yourself clearly to us and not to the world?«

»Master,« said Thomas, »we do not know where you are going. In what sense do we know the way?«

»These things I have spoken to you in order to clear stumbling-blocks out of your path.«

»A little while and you see me no more, and again a little while and you shall see me.«

So they asked one another repeatedly, »What can that `little while' mean which He speaks of? We do not understand His words.«

Jesus perceived that they wanted to ask Him, and He said, »Is this what you are questioning one another about–my saying, `A little while and you do not see me, and again a little while and you shall see me'?

But now I an returning to Him who sent me; and not one of you asks me where I am going.
