When He arrived in the neighbourhood of Caesarea Philippi, Jesus questioned His disciples. »Who do people say that the Son of Man is?« He asked.

When He thus entered Jerusalem, the whole city was thrown into commotion, every one inquiring, »Who is this?«

»Foxes have holes,« replied Jesus, »and birds have nests; but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay His head.«

»Does it not stand written in your Law,« replied Jesus, »`I said, you are gods'?

And I – if I am lifted up from the earth– will draw all men to me.«

But this has been so, in order that the saying may be fulfilled which stands written in their Law, `They have hated me without any reason.'

So Jesus added, »When you have lifted up the Son of Man, then you will know that I am He. Of myself I do nothing; but as the Father has taught me, so I speak.

But it cannot be denied that all that the Law says is addressed to those who are living under the Law, in order that every mouth may be stopped, and that the whole world may await sentence from God.

It follows then that just as the result of a single transgression is a condemnation which extends to the whole race, so also the result of a single decree of righteousness is a life-giving acquittal which extends to the whole race.

but He, because He continues for ever, has a priesthood which does not pass to any successor.
