and in Him every believer is absolved from all offences, from which you could not be absolved under the Law of Moses.«

Upon their arrival they called the Church together and proceeded to report in detail all that God, working with them, had done, and how He had opened for the Gentiles the door of faith.

On the contrary, we believe that it is by the grace of the Lord Jesus that we, as well as they, shall be saved.«

Among our hearers was one named Lydia, a dealer in purple goods. She belonged to the city of Thyateira, and was a worshipper of the true God. The Lord opened her heart, so that she gave attention to what Paul was saying.

»Believe on the Lord Jesus,« they replied, »and both you and your household will be saved.«

But how are they to call on One in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in One whose voice they have never heard? And how are they to hear without a preacher?

And this proves that faith comes from a Message heard, and that the Message comes through its having been spoken by Christ.

All depends on faith, and for this reason–that acceptance with God might be an act of pure grace,

whereas in the case of a man who pleads no actions of his own, but simply believes in Him who declares the ungodly free from guilt, his faith is placed to his credit as righteousness.

And from this we learn that everything is dependent not on man's will or endeavour, but upon God who has mercy. For the Scripture said to Pharaoh,

Our freedom has been thus purchased in order that in Christ Jesus the blessing belonging to Abraham may come upon the nations, so that through faith we may receive the promised Spirit.

But Scripture has shown that all mankind are the prisoners of sin, in order that the promised blessing, which depends on faith in Jesus Christ, may be given to those who believe.

and what the transcendent greatness of His power in us believers as seen in the working of His infinite might

For we are God's own handiwork, created in Christ Jesus for good works which He has pre-destined us to practise.

caused us, dead though we were through our offences, to live with Christ –it is by grace that you have been saved–

For you have had the privilege granted you on behalf of Christ–not only to believe in Him, but also to suffer on His behalf;

having been buried with Him in your baptism, in which you were also raised with Him through faith produced within you by God who raised Him from among the dead.

They will pay the penalty of eternal destruction, being banished from the presence of the Lord and from His glorious majesty,

For it is impossible, in the case of those who have once for all been enlightened, and have tasted the sweetness of the heavenly gift, and have been made partakers of the Holy Spirit,

whom God in His power is guarding through faith for a salvation that even now stands ready for unveiling at the End of the Age.
