And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues, and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen by men. Verily, I say to you, they have their reward.

And love the uppermost rooms at feasts, and the chief seats in the synagogues,

Take heed that ye do not your alms before men, to be seen by them: otherwise ye have no reward from your Father who is in heaven.

Moreover, when ye fast, be not as the hypocrites, of a sad countenance: for they disfigure their faces, that they may appear to men to fast. Verily, I say to you, they have their reward.

Therefore, when thou doest thy alms, do not sound a trumpet before thee, as the hypocrites do, in the synagogues, and in the streets, that they may have glory from men. Verily, I say to you, they have their reward.

Pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he will send forth laborers into his harvest.

And when ye stand praying, forgive, if ye have aught against any: that your Father also who is in heaven may forgive you your trespasses.

And he said to them in his doctrine, Beware of the scribes, who love to go in long clothing, and love salutations in the market-places,

Woe to you, Pharisees! for ye love the uppermost seats in the synagogues, and greetings in the markets.

And he spoke a parable to them to this end, that men ought always to pray, and not to faint;

And the publican, standing afar off, would not lift up so much as his eyes to heaven, but smote upon his breast, saying, God be merciful to me a sinner.

Who devour widows' houses, and for a show make long prayers: the same shall receive greater damnation.

But woe to you that are rich! for ye have received your consolation.

Hitherto ye have asked nothing in my name: ask, and ye shall receive, that your joy may be full.

Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching for this purpose with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;

But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace to the humble.
