"I tell you," replied Jesus, "that this very night, before the cock crows, you will disown me three times!"

"If every one else falls away from you," Peter answered, "I shall never fall away!"

and Peter remembered the words which Jesus had said--'Before a cock has crowed, you will disown me three times'; and he went outside, and wept bitterly.

At that moment, for the second time, a cock crowed; and Peter remembered the words that Jesus had said to him--'Before a cock has crowed twice, you will disown me three times'; and, as he thought of it, he began to weep.

"I tell you, Peter," replied Jesus, "the cock will not crow to-day till you have disowned all knowledge of me three times."

And the Master turned and looked at Peter; and Peter remembered the words that the Master had said to him--"Before a cock has crowed to-day, you will disown me three times";

"Will you lay down your life for me?" replied Jesus. "In truth I tell you, the cock will not crow till you have disowned me three times.
