After mid-day a darkness came over all the country, lasting till three in the afternoon.

And about three Jesus called out loudly: "Eloi, Eloi, lema sabacthani"--that is to say, 'O my God, my God, why has thou forsaken me?'

It was nine in the morning when they crucified him.

Some of those standing round heard this, and said: "Listen! He is calling for Elijah!"

It was nearly mid-day, when a darkness came over the whole country, lasting till three in the afternoon,

Then Jesus, with a loud cry, said: "Father, into thy hands I commit my spirit." And with these words he expired.

One afternoon, about three o'clock, he distinctly saw in a vision an angel from God come to him, and call him by name.

Jesus, in the days of his earthly life, offered prayers and supplications, with earnest cries and with tears, to him who was able to save him from death; and he was heard because of his devout submission.
