"How do you know me?" asked Nathanael. "Even before Philip called you," replied Jesus, "when you were under the fig tree, I saw you."

But, when one of you prays, let him go into his own room, shut the door, and pray to his Father who dwells in secret; and his Father, who sees what is secret, will recompense him.

Philip was from Bethsaida, and a fellow-townsman of Andrew and Peter.

Who went to Philip of Bethsaida in Galilee, and said: "Sir, we wish to see Jesus."

"Master, show us the Father," said Philip, "and we shall be satisfied."

And because he did not need that others should tell him what men were; for he could of himself read what was in men.

Looking up, and noticing that a great crowd was coming towards him, Jesus said to Philip: "Where are we to buy bread for these people to eat?"

"Twenty pounds' worth of bread," answered Philip, "would not be enough for each of them to have a little."

The secrets of his heart are revealed, and then, throwing himself on his face, he will worship God, and declare 'God is indeed among you!'

Therefore do not pass judgment before the time, but wait till the Lord comes. He will throw light upon what is now dark and obscure, and will reveal the motives in men's minds; and then every one will receive due praise from God.
