As soon as it was daylight, the Chief Priests, after holding a consultation with the Councillors and Teachers of the Law--that is to say, the whole High Council--put Jesus in chains, and took him away, and gave him up to Pilate.

On one of these days, when Jesus was teaching the people in the Temple Courts and telling the Good News, the Chief Priests and the Teachers of the Law, joined by the Councillors, confronted him,

At daybreak the National Council met--both the Chief Priests and the Teachers of the Law--and took Jesus before their High Council.

So Pilate summoned the Chief Priests, and the leading men, and the people,

And how the Chief Priests and our leading men gave him up to be sentenced to death, and afterwards crucified him.

On this, Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, spoke as follows: "Leaders of the people and Councillors,

But Gamaliel, a Pharisee, who was a Doctor of the Law and who was held in universal respect, rose in the Council, and directed that the men should be taken out of court for a little while.

And they stirred up the people, as well as the Councillors and the Teachers of the Law, and set upon Stephen, and arrested him, and brought him before the High Council.
